Scottish Tablet History

The history of Scottish Tablet:

The Household Book of Lady Grizel Baille | 1692 - 1733 | Scottish Tablet genesis.

The Household Book of Lady Grizel Baillie is part of a cherished series published by the Scottish History Society, documenting household life in the 17th and 18th century from the perspective of the grand Baillie family of Edinburgh.

This book explores many interesting topics, from contrasting Scottish country and High Street Edinburgh City living, to detailed insights into housekeeping practices, attire, servant work, estate management, and even how to set one’s dinner table.

However, importantly for us, fellow Scots and the world, Lady Grizel Baillie’s book was the first to document the process of making our national confectionery icon, Scottish tablet - the rest is history.

Join us in continuing to celebrate our proud Scottish history and beloved national treat in the most delicious and unique way possible with our special decades-old, Laing family recipe Scottish Tablet.
